Due to 27 airports remaining closed till May 10, domestic carriers canceled almost 430 flights on Thursday, or nearly 3% of all scheduled flights in the nation, following India’s effective execution of Operation Sindoor.

Data from Flightradar24, a flight tracking platform, showed that there were relatively few civilian aircraft operating in the airspace over Pakistan and the western corridor of India.

The service, which offered real-time flight path data and cancellation statistics, said that “airspace over Pakistan and the western shoulder of India between Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat was free of civilian air traffic as airlines shunned the sensitive zone.”

Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Pathankot, Bhuntar, Shimla, Gaggal, Dharamsala, Kishangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mundra, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, Bhuj, Gwalior, and Hindon are among the airports that are impacted.

Operations at 21 airports in northern and western India were halted on Wednesday, and over 300 flights were cancelled.

Air India said that its contact centers are now dealing with heavy phone volumes in a post on X.

Even though every one of our agents is actively helping clients, occasionally connecting could take longer than anticipated. You may be confident that we are here to help. Air India is providing a one-time remission of the rescheduling cost and a complete reimbursement for passengers whose flights are affected by the current disruptions. The airline stated that this is good for tickets purchased on the affected flights through May 10, 2025.

Additionally, Air India expressed its gratitude to our military and defense people for their selfless service and dedication.

“To support their duty commitments, we are offering full refunds on cancellation and a one-time waiver on rescheduling flights up to 30 June 2025 for those personnel holding defense fares who are booked on Air India and Air India Express flights until May 31, 2025,” stated Air India.

Passengers were notified by IndiGo that shifting airspace conditions were affecting its routes to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamsala.

“Continuing our efforts to provide support to our customers and accommodate their travel plan changes, we are extending full waiver of change and cancellation fees for travel to/from Srinagar until 22nd May 2025, for bookings made on or before 22nd April 2025,” IndiGo stated in a post on X on Thursday.

Flights to and from Dharamsala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar have been suspended until further notice, according to SpiceJet. In reaction to the situation, Akasa Air also released a travel advice, however it did not specifically name the impacted itineraries.
