A multiparty delegation of Nepali lawmakers visiting New Delhi met with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Wednesday to discuss ways to deepen India-Nepal cooperation for both countries’ mutual advantage.

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), wrote on X that “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri interacted with a multiparty delegation of MPs from Nepal today and discussed opportunities for expanding the multifaceted India-Nepal partnership for mutual benefit.”

The Nepalese Embassy in India welcomed the group of MPs who were coming on Sunday, pointing out that frequent visits by leaders, especially MPs, between Nepal and India will improve bilateral relations.

“Happy to welcome the visiting delegation of MPs from Nepal and interact with them at the Embassy of Nepal in India today,” the Nepal Embassy in India wrote while posting the MPs’ photos on X. The relationship between Nepal and India will be strengthened by the frequent exchange of political visits, particularly those of Members of Parliament.

On July 28 and 29, the India-Nepal Boundary Working Group (BWG) met for the seventh time in New Delhi. The MEA claims that the two countries’ officials agreed to speed work in this area and mutually established “Updated Modalities for Inspection, Repair and Maintenance of Boundary Pillars along the India-Nepal Boundary.”

Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India, Survey of India, headed the Indian delegation to the meeting. Prakash Joshi, Director General, Survey Department, Government of Nepal, led the Nepali delegation.

“The BWG meeting also finalized the work plan for the next three years,” MEA said in a press release. The employment of cutting-edge technologies for border work was agreed upon by both parties.

The work completed since the last (6th) BWG meeting in August 2019 was assessed by the officials of two countries. The next meeting of the Survey Officials Committee (SOC) will take place in Nepal shortly on dates that have been agreed upon by both parties.
