On Wednesday, Adani Airports Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) announced that it has secured $750 million from a group of global banks through External Commercial Borrowings (ECB).
The proceeds will be used to refinance the existing $40 million debt, invest in infrastructure upgrades and capacity expansion across the six airports (Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram), and scale the non-aeronautical businesses, such as retail, food and beverage, duty-free, and services throughout the airport network, according to Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), India’s largest private airport operator.
“The confidence that top international financial institutions have shown in us highlights the aviation infrastructure of India’s long-term worth and potential. Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, stated that the airline is well on its way to providing outstanding customer experiences, utilizing technology to ensure smooth operations, and giving sustainability and community involvement first priority throughout its airport network.
“AAHL is dedicated to being the ‘Gateway to Goodness’ as we proceed, providing customer-focused solutions and constructing top-notch airport infrastructure that establishes international standards for sustainability and service,” Bansal continued.
Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays PLC, and First Abu Dhabi Bank spearheaded the deal.
With a total capacity of 110 million passengers, AAHL carried 94 million passengers in FY 2024–2025. Through phased construction, it hopes to treble capacity to 300 million passengers annually by 2040.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is anticipated to open soon as part of this plan, adding 20 million passengers in the first phase and gradually increasing capacity to 90 million passengers yearly, greatly enhancing the aviation infrastructure in the Mumbai area.
Additionally, AAHL owns 74% of Mumbai International Airport Ltd, which owns 74% of Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd.
AAHL is the biggest airport infrastructure firm in India, managing and developing eight airports that account for 23% of passenger foot traffic and more over 29% of air cargo traffic.
