Adani Defence & Aerospace stated on Monday that it has reached a formal agreement to acquire Air Works, India’s largest private-sector maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) company, for Rs 400 crore.
“Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL) has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire 85.8 per cent shareholding in Air Works India (Engineering) Private Ltd,” according to a statement from the business.
Air Works provides base maintenance for narrow-body and turboprop aircraft, as well as rotary aircraft, from its facilities in Hosur, Mumbai, and Kochi, with regulatory certification from civil aviation authorities in over 20 countries.
According to the announcement, Air Works is a market leader in civil aviation and has developed strong defence MRO capabilities, carrying out projects for important Indian Navy and Indian Air Force platforms.
“The acquisition enhances the Adani Group’s capabilities in the defence MRO sector, solidifying its position in India’s airborne defence ecosystem,” said the press release.
According to the statement, this strategic initiative is a turning point in the Adani Group’s growth trajectory and lays the groundwork for its future expansion into the civil aviation services sector.
Air Works, which employs more than 1,300 people and operates in 35 cities, offers a wealth of experience in maintaining both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
According to the statement, the MRO company provides its Indian and international clients with an end-to-end suite of aviation services that includes avionics, line maintenance, heavy checks, interior renovation, painting, redelivery checks, and asset management.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports, stated, “The Indian aviation industry is at a transformative juncture, currently the third largest globally, and on track to induct over 1,500 aircraft in the coming years.”
“This expansion creates previously unheard-of prospects in aviation services, perfectly aligning with the government’s ambition to connect every corner of our country. We see entering the MRO market as a commitment to constructing an integrated aviation services ecosystem that fortifies the foundation of India’s aviation infrastructure, not just a strategic move. We are thrilled to work together to significantly influence how India’s skies will develop in the future.
“This historic acquisition represents a pivotal step in Adani Defence & Aerospace’s mission to strengthen India’s MRO capabilities,” stated Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace.
Our goal is to satisfy the demands of the commercial and defence aviation industries by providing a comprehensive MRO package that covers line, base, component, and engine maintenance. We are totally dedicated to expanding domestic capabilities to support our military services and the larger aviation industry at a time when Aatmanirbharta in defence is a national need. Our commitment to the country is to develop capabilities that will protect our skies and bolster our sovereignty.
As a division of the Adani Group, Adani Defence & Aerospace is a leader in the creation, design, and production of cutting-edge defence equipment. According to the corporate statement, the company has also created an ecosystem of MSMEs and start-ups with quality management systems, best-in-class procedures, and an export-oriented mindset.
