Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s visit to the UK beginning Wednesday will also allow India to share views on issues like cross-border terrorism and the need to respond to such challenges in a resolute manner, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Tuesday, highlighting the US decision to officially designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
Numerous terror-related activities have been carried out by the TRF, including the horrific attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 of this year, for which it has twice claimed responsibility.
“You are also aware of recent developments regarding the TRF role in Pahalgam. As a proxy for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, the TRF was recently named a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and a foreign terrorist organization by the US State Department. At a special media briefing in New Delhi ahead of PM Modi’s two-nation visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated, “I am sure our UK colleagues are aware of this development, but this will give us the opportunity to share further views on issues such as cross-border terrorism and the need to respond in a resolute fashion to such challenges.”
“The action demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump’s call for justice for the Pahalgam attack,” said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week when he announced the TRF’s listing as a terrorist organization.
“The Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, was claimed by TRF, a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) front and proxy. He claimed that this was the deadliest assault on Indian civilians since the LeT attacks in Mumbai in 2008.
Washington’s move was hailed by India as a “timely and important step” that demonstrated the close counterterrorism collaboration between the two countries.
“A strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation,” wrote External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar in a post onX. Thank Secretary Rubio and the US State Department for designating TRF, a proxy for Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) and Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). It took credit for the Pahalgam attack on April 22. There is no room for terrorism.
India has always emphasized the importance of international collaboration in the fight against terrorism and the destruction of terrorist infrastructure, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In addition to declaring zero tolerance for terrorism, New Delhi has promised to keep up its close collaboration with its international allies in order to hold terrorist groups and their proxies responsible.
