The virus claimed the life of a 26-year-old man from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, amid an increase in Covid-19 cases nationwide. After receiving treatment for tuberculosis and other illnesses for the previous two months, the patient tested positive for COVID-19 on May 24 and passed away on Sunday, May 25.

The death was confirmed by the Medical and Health Department on Monday, May 26. Eight new Covid-19 cases were reported in Rajasthan on May 26: three from Jaipur (from Rajasthan Hospital, B Lal Hospital, and EHCC), one from RNT Medical College in Udaipur, and four from Jodhpur (including three from AIIMS and one from SNMC).

As a result, there are already 23 infections in the state overall this year. Jaipur (6), Jodhpur (4), Udaipur (4), Didwana (3), Ajmer (2), Bikaner (1), Phalodi (1), Sawai Madhopur (1), and Others (1) are among the districts where cases have been distributed thus far. Three more instances were recorded on Sunday. The current JN.1 form, which developed from Omicron BA.2.86, is not thought to be lethal, according to health authorities.

They did, however, recommend ongoing vigilance, particularly in crowded areas and hospitals, and urged people to wear masks, practice good hygiene, and get help if symptoms arise.

According to the most recent data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 1,009 Covid-19 instances across India, with the biggest numbers reported in Kerala (430), Maharashtra (209), and Delhi (104). Additionally, there have been seven recorded deaths from Karnataka (1), Kerala (2), and Maharashtra (4).

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, the director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research, stated on Monday that although the number of Covid-19 infections in India is rising, there is no need for concern because they are not serious.

Additionally, Bahl promised that the government is keeping a close eye on the instances.

According to the most recent data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), which was established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country’s increase in SARS-CoV-2 cases is caused by NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, which are offspring of the JN.1 Covid variant.
