In a further push for local manufacturing, the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the newly launched iPhone 16e, is now being assembled in India for both the domestic and export markets, according to industry experts who cleared the air on Thursday about the new device’s comparison to the now-retired iPhone SE.
The new Apple product, which features an A18 chip, long-lasting battery life, Apple Intelligence, and a 48MP 2-in-1 camera system, is being manufactured/assembled for both domestic and foreign markets.
According to analysts, the iPhone 16e is not the iPhone SE4, and the entire “comparison is futile”.
“Essentially, Apple phased out the SE lineup and expanded the iPhone 16 lineup with a new entry point.” “The iPhone SE was no longer adding value to consumers, developers, or Apple,” stated Neil Shah, Partner and Co-Founder of Counterpoint Research.
The iPhone SE, positioned as a “Special Edition,” which evoked nostalgia for past and smaller designs, was priced around $400.
However, the iPhone SE lost its value and appeal, which had previously accounted for 16% of overall iPhone sales volumes, fell to 1% last year.
According to Shah, people demand better cameras, larger displays, and faster processors.
“With all this background, what Apple did was to extend the 16 series with a newer ‘base version’ of iPhone 16 and now retired SE,” Shah emailed.
