From September 9 to September 16, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will go to India as part of a state visit, according to a press release from the Union Ministry of External Affairs. This will be Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s first bilateral visit to India outside of his current tenure.

In May 2014, Ramgoolam made a previous trip to India.

Additionally, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will travel to Tirupati and Mumbai.

He will be going to a business function in Mumbai.

On September 5, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned Ramgoolam’s previous trip to India in 2014 to witness Prime Minister Modi‘s swearing-in ceremony during a weekly media conference in New Delhi.

Ramgoolam congratulated Prime Minister Modi and the Indian populace a happy Independence Day last month.

Ramgoolam said Mauritius honors the principles of independence, democracy, and unity that India has so bravely maintained since 1947 while wishing India a happy Independence Day. He emphasized that history and culture are the foundation of the relationship between two countries.

Narendra Modi, the prime minister, I send my best wishes to the Indian government and people on this important occasion of India’s Independence Day. We honor the principles of independence, democracy, and unity that India has so bravely maintained since 1947 as we mark this momentous day. The historical and cultural ties that Mauritius and India share continue to foster friendship, collaboration, and respect for one another. May India thrive in peace, wealth, and advancement while leading the globe with its vision and tenacity. “Happy India’s Independence Day!” Ramgoolam stated in an X post.

In addition to thanking his Mauritius counterpart, Prime Minister Modi referred to Mauritius as India’s “strategic and trusted partner” in their joint quest for development, prosperity, and a promising future for their two countries’ citizens.

“Thank you so much for your kind words on our Independence Day, Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam. In our joint quest for development, wealth, and a promising future for our peoples, Mauritius will always be a strategic and reliable partner,” PM Modi wrote on X.

At Ramgoolam’s request, PM Modi traveled to Mauritius for a two-day state visit earlier this year to participate in the country’s 57th National Day celebrations. PM Modi met bilaterally with President Dharam Gokhool of Mauritius and Ramgoolam during the tour.

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission in Mauritius, India and Mauritius have “close and longstanding relations” that are based on a common history, population, and culture. Even before Mauritius gained its independence, in 1948, independent India had diplomatic ties with a few key nations, including Mauritius. High levels of mutual trust and understanding at the leadership level, as well as ongoing high-level political participation, have been characteristics of the partnership.
