Before leaving for a two-day visit to Laos to attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ratan Tata’s brother, Noel Tata, and extended his condolences.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Ratan Tata’s burial on behalf of the Government of India.

Earlier, in a series of postings on X, PM Modi conveyed his condolences on the death of Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, who died at the Breach Candy Hospital due to age-related health issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Ratan Tata as a “visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”

“He gave consistent leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prominent corporate houses. At the same time, his work extended well beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to many people with his humility, generosity, and unwavering dedication to improving our country,” the PM wrote on X.

He praised Ratan Tata’s most distinctive quality, “his passion for dreaming big and giving back.”

“He was at the forefront of championing causes like education, healthcare, sanitation, animal welfare to name a few,” added Modi, the PM.

Modi recalled his contacts with Tata, saying, “My mind is full of countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji.” When I was Chief Minister of Gujarat, I met with him frequently. We would discuss many subjects. His points of view were really interesting to me. These exchanges continued when I arrived in Delhi. His death has caused me much sorrow. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends, and admirers. “Om Shanti.”

Ratan Tata, 86, died at Breach Candy Hospital on Monday after being admitted for age-related health conditions.
