At the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the annual celebration of the National Song, “Vande Mataram.”

On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also unveil a commemorative coin and stamp. This performance officially kicks off a year-long national celebration that will go until November 7, 2026, honoring 150 years of this timeless composition by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, which continues to inspire pride and solidarity in the country and served as an inspiration for the liberation movement.

In addition to the main program, the complete version of “Vande Mataram” will be sung in large numbers throughout public spaces at approximately 9.50 a.m. as part of the celebrations, according to a statement.

Vande Mataram will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025. The national song was composed on November 7, 1875, the auspicious day of Akshaya Navami.

Vande Mataram initially surfaced in Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s novel Anandamath, published in the literary periodical “Bangadarshan.”

India’s emerging spirit of togetherness and self-respect was poetically expressed in the hymn, which invoked the Motherland as the personification of power, prosperity, and divinity. It quickly become a timeless representation of loyalty to the country.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the National Song, the Delhi Legislative Assembly will also host a special event on Friday.

According to an official statement, Speaker Vijender Gupta will present a commemorative plaque honoring the milestone.

Additionally, a cultural program showcasing the spirit of togetherness and patriotism inspired by “Vande Mataram” will be performed by performers from the Sahitya Kala Parishad.

The Delhi Legislative Assembly building will be lit up in the colors of the national flag in the evening to commemorate the festival.

“Vande Mataram” is more than just a song, according to Gupta; it symbolizes the spirit of India’s liberation struggle and an eternal tribute to our homeland.

The Delhi Legislative Assembly is honored to commemorate 150 years of this national treasure, which still motivates all Indians to be united, selfless, and patriotic. “We reaffirm our commitment to the values and spirit that shaped our nation by commemorating this historic milestone,” he stated.
