Indian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and President Droupadi Murmu spoke on Friday about Shukla’s successful voyage to the International Space Station (ISS), the first by an Indian.
At the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, Shukla informed the President about his mission, in which the Indian astronaut was an important member of the crew.
The conversation took place the night before Saturday’s scheduled commemoration of the second National Space Day.
Shukla met with the President accompanied by Group Captains Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair and Punyashlok Biswal, as well as Dr. V Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO, Secretary of the Department of Space, and Dinesh Kumar Singh, Director of the Human Space Flight Center.
In a statement on X, the President wished the entire team luck in their future endeavors, particularly with regard to the Gaganyaan Mission.
Shukla spoke about his space experience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on August 19.
In addition, Shukla presented pictures taken in space and talked with the prime minister about the experience, which is important for India’s future space endeavors, particularly the Gaganyaan mission, which is the nation’s first human spaceflight project.
The astronaut responded, “The brain takes time to understand that we have to walk,” when PM Modi questioned Shukla about the changes he noticed after returning to Earth from his space trip. Readjusting to this environment does take some time. People had to help me up when I returned because I was unable to walk.”
He added that he had gone through the same scenario after arriving at the ISS.
The Prime Minister was also briefed by Shukla on his space experiments, which included crop seeds, cyanobacteria, myogenesis, methi and moong seed sprouting, tardigrades, and microalgae.
Additionally, he informed PM Modi that his fellow crew members are anxiously anticipating India’s Gaganyaan expedition.
“From my personal experience over the past year, wherever I went, wherever I met, everyone was very happy to meet me, excited to talk and eager to ask what we are doing and how we are doing it,” Shukla added, highlighting India’s rising international prominence.
India will commemorate the nation’s transition from satellites to human spaceflight on Saturday by celebrating the second National Space Day.
In an X post on Friday, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that India made history on August 23 by becoming the fourth country to land on the moon and the first to land at its south pole, under PM Modi’s leadership. This moment inspired the future.
