The remains of Ratan Tata, the industrial titan who died late on Wednesday, would be housed at the NCPA Lawns at Nariman Point for people to pay their last respects before being taken to Worli for a state funeral, government and Tata Group officials said Thursday.

The Maharashtra government has announced that the late industrialist will be given a full state funeral in the evening.

The state has officially designated a day of formal mourning in remembrance of the economic tycoon, casting a veil over the country’s corporate sector when the tragic news surfaced early Thursday.

According to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Tricolour will be flown at half-mast at all government buildings in respect of Ratan Tata, and there will be no official entertainment activities on the day.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Abhinav Deshmukh, tourists visiting the NCPA (National Centre for Performing Arts) should take public transport because there is no parking available.

Ratan Tata, 86, died at Breach Candy Hospital on Monday after being admitted for age-related health conditions.

Ratan Tata’s family expressed “a profound sense of loss” while bidding him farewell, saying in an early morning update that his mortal remains would be brought to the NCPA Lawns at around 10:30 a.m. to allow visitors to pay their final respects and homage to the departed soul.

Mourners would enter through Gate 3 and exit through Gate 2, with no parking available at the NCPA.

Ratan Tata’s remains would be transported from Nariman Point to the Worli Crematorium prayer hall for the funeral ceremonies at approximately 4 p.m.

According to the family, the lifeless remains, draped in the national flag, would be given a police gun salute before being burned at the cremation.
