In the midst of the global push to protect data sovereignty, Coredge.io, a sovereign AI and cloud platform company, was acquired by Sirius Digitech Ltd., a joint venture between the Adani Group and Sirius International Holding, a subsidiary of International Holding Company (IHC), on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount.

Through the acquisition, Sirius Digitech will be able to offer cloud services that will enable organisations to take advantage of developments in sovereign cloud while maintaining control over sensitive data inside their own borders.

“As nations increasingly prioritise data security, it is more important than ever that organisations have the option to retain their data within national borders rather than relying solely on the public cloud,” said Jeet Adani, Director of the Adani Group.

He added that with the exponential rise in artificial intelligence-driven need for compute and sovereign data stack, sovereign data centres become critical for safeguarding sensitive data and upholding national security.

“An additional benefit of this acquisition is our ability to put AI capabilities directly in the hands of organisations that require specialised sovereign cloud services for AI training and inferencing,” said Jeet Adani.

Coredge.io serves customers in Singapore, India, Japan, and provides safe and legal cloud services for AI applications that protect data sovereignty.

According to Ajay Bhatia, CEO of Sirius International Holding, “Coredge’s has demonstrated a global presence with the ability to scale solutions through sovereign AI cloud services that are globally available but locally operable.”

“This step underscores our commitment to offering a portfolio of secure, trusted and localised cloud AI technologies to our customers and partners,” Bhatia said.

Coredge plans to take advantage of the trillion-dollar worldwide market for sovereign clouds. Its leadership position in the industry stems from its proficiency in speeding hyper-local cloud service providers with strict data sovereignty and compliance requirements.

Arif Khan, CEO of Coredge.io, said, “Partnering with Sirius marks an exciting new chapter for our sovereign AI and cloud platform business, both in India and globally.”

In order to enable Sirius Digitech to provide Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS) as applications are built on its infrastructure, Coredge said it aims to build the entire solution stack for sovereign data centres. This stack will include everything from bare metal servers to services like infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) built on open-source technologies.
