“Encouraging South-South collaboration to accomplish SDG objectives.” Today, Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal launched the first phase of four initiatives in nine partner countries under the auspices of the “India-UN Global Capacity Building Initiative.” The occasion was graced by heads of missions, diplomats, representatives from ITEC implementing institutes, UN agencies, and other partner organizations, as well as UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Shombi Sharp. Speaking at the ceremony, Tanmaya Lal stated: “This new India-UN initiative for global capacity-building assumes even greater importance in the spirit of SDG-17 and effective international cooperation.” Its goal is to empower partners in the Global South and exchange experiences in important SDG-related sectors.
Through the “UN-India Global Capacity-Building Initiative,” the UN will use its global presence to link India’s institutions and best practices with those of other nations in order to hasten the SDGs’ attainment. The programs, which are carried out through the new UN India SDG Country Fund and the ITEC, cover a variety of activities, from knowledge and talent sharing to pilot projects in partner nations.
According to UN Resident Coordinator Shombi Sharp, “India is building on its already long-standing leadership role in driving South-South cooperation for SDG acceleration, leveraging the innovation and partnership power of Indian institutions and the UN system,” all under the motto of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the word is one family).
