Following a high-stakes student political struggle with over 1.55 lakh voters, the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2025 will conclude with the much-awaited results being announced on Friday.

Prior to the announcement, the Delhi High Court strictly prohibited the victorious candidates from holding any victory rallies. The Delhi Police, university officials, and local government have been ordered by the court to make sure that strict safeguards are in place to stop any unfortunate incidents.

Over 2.75 lakh eligible voters from more than 50 Delhi University-affiliated colleges participated in this year’s DUSU election, which was held on Thursday. Voting was conducted using 711 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at 195 booths and 52 centers. A total of 39.45 percent of voters cast ballots.

For the four important student union positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary, a total of twenty-one individuals are running. Notably, there are nine contenders for the President’s seat alone, and twelve more are contending for the other positions.

There were two stages to the polling process. In eight institutions, the evening session ran from 3 to 7:30 p.m., while the morning phase started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m. Voting gained pace later in the day, despite a slow start in the morning.

However, claims of malfeasance and violence clouded the polls. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) leader and current DUSU President Raunak Khatri was accused of participating in a fight at North Campus by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

A female student was injured after being physically assaulted by Khatri’s supporters outside Kirori Mal College, according to ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma.

Both the NSUI and the ABVP have asserted that they are on course to win despite the tensions. The ABVP dismissed NSUI’s accusations as unfounded and a sign of political fear, claiming that it is on course to win all four union positions.

To maintain law and order during and after the results announcement, university campuses have increased security.
