Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of information technology and electronics, declared on Thursday that the first 28–90 nm semiconductor chip made in India would be released this year.

“We targeted a particular segment, which has 60% of market volume, using a targeted approach,” the minister stated while speaking at the CII’s Annual Business Summit.

“We are now building six units. This year will see the release of the first 28–90 nm chip manufactured in India. In 2022, we began manufacturing,” the minister noted.

Smaller nanometer (nm) measurements indicate more compact transistor designs in the context of semiconductor production, enabling producers to put more transistors onto a single chip. Trains, power, telecom, and automobiles all employ the 28-90 nm device.

The minister emphasized the significance of the manufacturing sector, saying: “A lot of leading economists want us to concentrate on services. For the next stage of expansion, manufacturing and services are equally crucial. Everywhere we have the chance, we should expand our workload. We ought to have our own standards, design, product, and intellectual property.

He also emphasized how artificial intelligence (AI) was bringing about beneficial change. “We have experienced a big change due to AI, and it is here for good,” he said.

“AI would produce a similar phenomenon to what the internet accomplished for the world. No matter the sector or industry, we should be ready for that shift. The minister predicted that AI would significantly alter both our industry and society.

The necessity of AI models trained on Indian culture, nuances, languages, and social conventions was emphasized by him.

According to the minister, Sarvam is working on one of the earliest examples of this kind.

Additionally, Vaishnaw emphasized the accomplishments and expansion of the Indian Railways, which he oversees as a minister.

“We have achieved a major milestone as we have become the second largest cargo carrying railway in the world with the transportation of 1,612 million tonnes of freight, overtaking the US and Russia,” he said.

Additionally, we can now carry a lot more passengers. We’ve arrived at a point where objectives are being met and aspirations are coming true. Railways are moving steadily in the right path; more companies need to follow suit,” Vaishnaw continued.

“The country’s experiment of bringing startups into the railway sector has proven to be very successful,” the Railway Minister added. He went on to say, “We are now introducing a new policy where we can test a new innovative idea and then scale it up based on the test results.”
