During their meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong talked about enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in several important trade and investment domains.
Wong’s three-day official visit to India was a significant milestone in the two countries’ growing strategic cooperation. Along with his wife and a high-level group that includes cabinet ministers and senior officials, Wong is making his first trip to India since taking office.
Wong was greeted by the finance minister during his first formal trip to India as prime minister.
“His visit, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of India-Singapore diplomatic relations, reaffirms the continued commitment of both countries to further strengthen the partnership,” stated the Finance Ministry in a release.
Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, and Jeffrey Siow, Senior Minister of State for Finance and acting Minister for Transport, also attended the meeting on behalf of Singapore.
Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the important domains of trade and investment, fintech, talent development, sustainability, healthcare, and connectivity was the main topic of discussion.
According to the government, all parties decided to further strengthen their collaboration in these areas.
Numerous high-level agreements in a variety of fields, including finance, digital innovation, talent development, civil aviation, maritime cooperation, and space technology, are anticipated to be signed during the visit.
The visit follows the third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), which was conducted on August 13 in New Delhi. The six main pillars of cooperation—Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalization, Healthcare and Medicine, Skill Development, and Sustainability—were examined by the ministers of both nations during the roundtable. A number of fresh projects were found to improve cooperation in various fields.
