In an effort to assist India in accelerating the adoption of renewable energy sources and removing shared obstacles in the fulfilment of the global Net Zero objectives, Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) and Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. announced on Tuesday that they had joined the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA).

The first companies in their respective industries to join this worldwide alliance are AESL in transmission and distribution and AGEL in the renewable energy industry.

AESL will step up its efforts to create a dependable grid infrastructure for the transmission and distribution of green energy, while AGEL will concentrate on issues such as expanding clean power, enhancing energy security, and improving energy efficiency.

“Joining the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance gives an opportunity to collaborate with global peers on advancing the sustainability goals, drive innovation and accelerate the clean energy transition,” said Sagar Adani, Executive Director of AGEL.

“We are committed to delivering 50 GW by 2030 and contribute 10% of the nation’s non-fossil fuel energy goal by that year,” Sagar Adani continued, stating that his company is the biggest player in renewable energy in India.

The UAE Declaration of Action was adopted at COP28, establishing UNEZA, which operates under the direction of the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The alliance unites top power and utility corporations worldwide to drive the creation of grids equipped for renewable energy, advance electrification initiatives, and promote clean energy solutions.

“By joining Utilities for Net Zero Alliance, AESL will be able to leverage on the experience of its global peers and in turn share its insights into building high-capacity renewable energy evacuation networks,” explains Anil Sardana, Managing Director of AESL

“Given the Adani Portfolio’s ambitious renewable energy plans, it is crucial for AESL to establish reliable evacuation networks for uninterrupted renewable energy offtake,” said Sardana.

By 2050, Net Zero is the goal shared by AESL and AGEL.

By 2030, Adani Green Energy wants to expand its operational capacity from 11.2 GW of renewable energy to 50 GW.

At Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat, the corporation is building the largest renewable energy plant in the world, with a 30 GW capacity.

Adani Energy Solutions has set a goal to raise the percentage of renewable energy in bulk power purchases to 70% by 2030 for its Mumbai distribution arm.

Furthermore, the corporation wants to cut its direct emissions from 2020 levels by 72.7% by 2030.
