The Odisha Assembly’s monsoon session is scheduled to start on Thursday, and the opposition is prepared to confront the state government by bringing up the problems faced by farmers as a result of the ongoing fertilizer crisis and the growing number of crimes committed against women in the state.

On September 18, the session will begin with obituary references. Private Members’ Bills will be considered by the House on September 19, and five days have been set aside as official business days from September 20 to 25.

Prior to the next session, an all-party meeting was conducted on September 16 where opposition parties pledged their support for the Assembly’s efficient operation.

Along with other politicians, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, senior BJD leader and Assembly party whip Pramila Mallik, and Congress CLP leader Rama Chandra Kadam.

During the session, Speaker Padhy urged everyone to participate actively and constructively.

“All sides have pledged to cooperate in line with legal requirements. We anticipate deep conversations on public concerns that may result in significant changes for the people of Odisha,” she stated.

Padhy also urged lawmakers to maintain discipline and decorum, saying, “I expect all MLAs to express their views thoughtfully, maintain the decorum of the House, and contribute positively to the proceedings.”

BJD leader Mallik told reporters that the party will fully support the House’s operation in accordance with the constitution.

She also made it clear that the opposition BJD would bring up significant topics pertaining to the populace, such as the difficulties experienced by women, farmers, SCs and STs, and others.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahaling asserted that the state administration is ready to address any issue brought up by the opposition, particularly those pertaining to women, farmers, teachers, and students.

He added that the BJP would draw attention to the BJD’s 24-year history, the performance of the previous Congress administration, and the accomplishments of the state government led by the BJP during the past 15 months.
