An important turning point in India-Bhutan relations was reached when His Holiness The Je Khenpo publicly consecrated the Royal Bhutan Temple in Rajgir, Bihar, in a moment of profound spiritual and diplomatic significance.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who was present at the ceremony on Thursday, conveyed his sincere appreciation to Prime Ministers Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan and Narendra Modi of India for their shared dedication to enhancing the unique relationship between the two countries.
Union Minister Rijiju said on social media site X, “Thank you so much, Your Excellency Prime Minister @tsheringtobgay La, for your commitment along with PM @narendramodi Ji to strengthen the special India-Bhutan relationship,” emphasizing the temple’s inauguration’s symbolic significance.
Senior leaders from both nations attended the event, including Indian authorities and members of the Bhutanese Royal Family.
The ceremony, according to PM Tobgay, emphasized the temple’s function as a spiritual lighthouse and a symbol of the two countries’ friendship.
In addition to being a place of worship, PM Tobgay said, “this temple is a symbol of trust, confidence, and deep-seated genuine friendship between our two countries.”
Speakers acknowledged Rajgir’s significance as a sacred Buddhist place during the consecration ceremony, which was characterized by humility and introspection.
The Royal Family’s involvement in the project has strengthened ties between the two countries, PM Tobgay added. “To have a Buddhist temple in Rajgir, Bodh Gaya, is deeply appropriate and meaningful,” he said.
Already acclaimed as a landmark in the Buddhist world, the temple was constructed on land provided by the Indian government.
PM Tobgay remarked, “This is the envy of the entire Buddhist world,” alluding to the architectural design and spiritual significance of the monastery.
The occasion also honored Bhutan’s achievements to the world, such as the creation of Gelphu Mindfulness City by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the country’s groundbreaking Gross National Happiness philosophy.
“Bhutan may be a small country, but it delivers a powerful message to the world,” Union Minister Rijiju remarked, speaking highly of Bhutan’s philosophical and spiritual leadership.
Expressions of thanks and optimism for future cooperation marked the end of the ceremony.
The Union Minister remarked, “I feel privileged to represent India at this sacred occasion,”
“This temple is not only a place of worship but a bridge between our peoples.”
Today, the Royal Bhutan Temple serves as a reminder of India and Bhutan’s common ideals, spiritual history, and unwavering friendship.
