India has gone to Birmingham for the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, and seam-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has been removed from the team. According to sources who spoke to IANS, Rana is currently returning to India from Leeds.
In the first Test match in Leeds, where England won by five wickets after chasing 371 on an exciting final day at Headingley, Rana was included in India’s side.
Actually, there was a niggle in one of the major Test team’s pacers. Rana was held back because, if the team think tank wanted a backup bowler who could implement a bouncer-led approach, he was the one who filled the criteria.
However, as of right now, everything is good. Rana has since been released from the club, which explains why he was not seen traveling to Birmingham with the team, the sources further told IANS.
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series trip of Australia last year, Rana made his Test debut. He took just four wickets at an average of 50.75, with his best numbers coming in Perth at 3-48. Rana was given the opportunity to play in the opening match for India “A” against the England Lions in Canterbury, England, where he made 16 runs and finished with figures of 1-99.
In the meantime, the Indian squad, led by Shubman Gill, had a transit day on Wednesday. In order to be ready for the second Test, which starts at Edgbaston on July 2, the players will probably start their training sessions on Friday after taking a day off on Thursday.
Despite having five hundreds and five wickets in their kitty, India has a difficult time recovering from a crushing loss in Leeds, where England currently leads the five-match series 1-0.
India’s first appearance in the World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle is a five-match Test series in England.
