India won their third Champions Trophy championship in 2025 with an emphatic victory over New Zealand in the final, after remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. Cricket greats have praised Rohit Sharma and his team for their relentless and consistent performance in recent ICC competitions.
Yuvraj Singh, a former Indian all-rounder, indicated that the skipper may have had the ‘Midas touch’ in ICC white-ball competitions.
“What a game! What a finale! The Champions Trophy returns home. Outstanding captaincy by hitman @ImRo45, who led from the front throughout the event; he has the Midas touch when it comes to ICC white-ball tournaments!
“Successful games for @ShreyasIyer15, @ShubmanGill, @klrahul, and @hardikpandya7, who stood up and demonstrated steel nerves under pressure. @imjadeja @imkuldeep18 @akshar2026 #VarunChakaravarthy worked wonders throughout the competition, and @MdShami11 was relentless with the ball! Tough luck, @BLACKCAPS; you kept us on edge until the very end. “But it was our tournament!” Yuvraj commented on X.
“Great effort by India…What a performance in international competitions over the past two years! There is so much depth in the group; congrats to everyone…Sourav Ganguly, former India head coach, tweeted, “Rohit Sharma, captain marvellous…@bcci.”
This was India’s fourth appearance in an ICC final in two years under Rohit’s captaincy, and their second success since winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. It is also India’s third Champions Trophy trophy, following wins in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013.
The 2025 Champions Trophy was Pakistan’s first home tournament in 29 years, although the hosts were ousted in the group round after losing to India and New Zealand. The host country’s legends also acknowledged India’s domination in the event.
“The tournament’s best team won the Champions Trophy. That’s without losing a single match!” Read Shoaib Akhtar’s caption.
“Many congrats to India for winning the Champions Trophy. “Very well deserved, as they have been the most consistent team throughout the tournament,” wrote former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik.
