Congresswoman Deborah Ross responded to the assassination by stating that “violence has no place in the country,” one day after prominent conservative commentator and activist Charlie Kirk was shot dead while speaking at a University event in Utah.

Ross, a Democratic Representative from North Carolina, told IANS in Washington on Thursday that she and her fellow lawmakers should “take responsibility” for reducing the political rhetoric as they are elected officials.

The assassination attempt on then-candidate and current President Trump occurred more over a year ago. Lawmakers from Minnesota were also assassinated. As elected leaders, it is our duty to curb this discourse and provide a better example for the American people, including the President of the United States, who has frequently called for violence,” she said.

Authorities have released two photos of the “person of interest,” and a big manhunt is in progress to apprehend the murderer.

The authorities are looking into many leads after receiving over 200 tips.

In a wooded area close to the school, investigators have found a powerful hunting rifle, a shoe impression, and a palm print. A $100,000 reward has been offered by the FBI for information that results in the suspect’s apprehension.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, President Donald Trump claimed that the authorities were “making big progress.”

He was an advocate of non-violence, Trump responded when asked how he wanted his fans to react to Charlie Kirk’s death. I prefer to see people that way.

Trump had said earlier in the day that Kirk would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.

Kirk, 31, was giving a speech at a Utah Valley University campus function on Wednesday when gunfire broke out, causing terror among those in attendance. Shortly after being taken to the hospital, he passed away from his wounds.

Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the most well-known conservative student organization in the nation, was founded by Kirk. At the age of 18, he founded the Arizona-based organization in 2012, and it has since grown to become a political force with more than 800 branches across US institutions. Particularly in the 2024 election, when it was crucial in supporting Trump’s reelection campaign, TPUSA emerged as a major force in mobilizing young conservative voters.
