EAM Jaishankar engages in a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA

On the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit in New York, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar held a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other countries.

Alva Baptiste, the foreign minister of St. Lucia, met with the EAM. Jaishankar shared information about the encounter on social media, writing, “Today was a terrific talk with FM Alva Baptiste of St. Lucia. Enjoy his company at all times.

He spoke with Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the foreign minister of Denmark, in another significant meeting.

After the meeting, Jaishankar wrote, “I enjoyed the discussion. I like his thoughts on the war in Ukraine and the most recent events in Europe. We also talked about India-EU cooperation during the Danish Presidency and our bilateral connections.

He also had what he called a “quick chat” with Vivian Balakrishnan, the foreign minister of Singapore, at the high-level gathering of Like-Minded Global South Countries.

“Quick chat with my friend FM Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore on the sidelines of the High-Level Meeting of Like-Minded Global South Countries in New York today,” Jaishankar said on his Facebook page.

Additionally, EAM Jaishankar spoke with David van Weel, the foreign minister of the Netherlands.

“Enjoyed meeting with Dutch FM David van Weel this evening in New York,” he wrote in a post. An enlightening discussion about India’s strategy and European stance.

In addition, he met with Abdulla Khaleel, the foreign minister of the Maldives, and reaffirmed India’s “steadfast support” for the island nation’s development.

Jaishankar spoke with Ritish Ramful, the foreign minister of Mauritius, about the follow-up to Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s recent state visit to India.

Eighteen nations, representing a range of political and economic structures and developmental stages, attended the meeting. The forum is a portion of India’s continuous endeavors to bolster its position as the Global South’s foremost voice.
