During an event in Seattle, the United States, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates praised India as a global leader in innovation, pointing out that its innovative ideas might improve the lives of millions of people throughout the Global South.
Speaking at the event hosted by the Gates Foundation and the Indian Consulate General in Seattle, Gates said he hoped to continue working with India as it moves toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
It’s appropriate that we’re gathering on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. The principles he upheld—equality and human dignity—form the cornerstone of our work. India is currently leading the world in innovation and developing ground-breaking solutions that could save and enhance the lives of millions of people throughout the Global South. The Gates Foundation’s chair and board member, Gates, stated, “We look forward to continuing to partner with India on its journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Senior officials from the Seattle and Washington governments also attended the occasion.
It was held at the Bill Gates Foundation to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 156th birthday and featured Indian food, art, and culture.
The ceremony, which took place in conjunction with the Greater Seattle area’s Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non-Violence celebrations, included a special speech by Jonathan Granoff, President of the US Global Security Institute, on the “Relevance of Gandhian Values in Contemporary World Order.”
Earlier Thursday, Bellevue City Council leadership gathered in a memorial gathering at the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the Bellevue Public Library to remember the Mahatma’s legacy, according to the Indian Consulate General in Seattle.
Additionally, earlier in the day, Washington State Senator Vandana Slatter presented floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s bust at the Seattle Center (near the base of the Space Needle) in the presence of Eddie Rye, the Chairman and Founder of the Martin Luther King (MLK) – Gandhi Foundation.
The Indian Consulate General said, “These events in Bellevue and Seattle, respectively, featured a special rendition of Gandhi’s favorite hymns by young school children and were attended by a wide cross-section of Indian-American leadership.”
