Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from every state and Union Territory will meet with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday to discuss the execution of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls nationwide.

The national capital will host the conference, which will be presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other top election commissioners. Although the program includes a number of topics pertaining to election readiness, voter list accuracy, and transparency, the main emphasis will be on implementing the SIR procedure across the country.

The SIR procedure attempts to speed electoral roll revision by detecting and deleting duplicate or deceased voters, and assuring the prompt inclusion of new eligible voters. According to the ECI, this project will increase openness, boost voter database accuracy, and fortify the election process’s integrity.

Following the recent introduction of the SIR process in Bihar, which has generated political controversy, the decision was made to examine a statewide deployment.

Opposition parties, including the RJD, Congress, CPI, CPM, TMC, and SP, accused the Commission of working with bias by reportedly removing significant numbers of voters, particularly from marginalized areas. Political tensions in the poll-bound state have increased as a result of the incident.

The ECI seems committed to standardizing the review process across all states in order to prevent discrepancies and accusations of prejudice, especially because significant elections are scheduled for next year in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.

According to Commission sources, the conference will also discuss changes to guarantee justice, openness, and consistency in the SIR process moving forward, as well as the input from Bihar’s drive.
