One of Asia’s widest bridges, the much-anticipated six-lane road bridge across the Ganga River at Simaria Ganga Dham in Begusarai, was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Alongside him, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar cut the ribbon and walked a short way across the bridge to greet the rain-soaked audience.
Enthusiastic fans crowded the venue, as the prime minister waved to them.
The entire Simaria Dham was decked out “like a bride” for the event, according to locals, and people traveled from distant places to watch the inauguration.
For a long time, the region has demanded the project. The bridge was finished at a cost of Rs 1,871 crore following years of development, with PM Modi having placed the foundation stone in October 2017.
The recently opened bridge is billed as the widest six-lane bridge crossing the Ganga in Asia.
It greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to go between Aunta village in Patna district’s Mokama block and Simaria Dham in Begusarai.
According to officials, the bridge will improve regional trade, job prospects, and industrial expansion in addition to making it easier to connect Patna and Begusarai.
Residents conveyed their appreciation, stating that the new bridge has made it much easier for them to commute to Patna, which had previously been challenging.
People waited for PM Modi amid the rain. While examining the bridge, he also acknowledged the enthusiasm of the crowd, waved many times, and spoke with supporters for a short while.
Numerous residents referred to the day as a turning point for the area.
We traveled great distances to visit the Prime Minister, rain or shine. “A long-awaited dream has come true today,” one participant remarked.
PM Narendra Modi officially opened and lay the foundation stone for 14 projects totaling Rs 12,992 crore in Gaya earlier in the day.
