According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a “strong friendship between the two countries is essential for global progress” as he arrived in London Wednesday night for his two-day visit to the UK.
“Arrived in London. The advancement of our countries’ economic partnership will be greatly enhanced by this visit. The emphasis will be on advancing growth, prosperity, and the creation of jobs for our citizens. PM Modi stated on social media site X that “a strong India-UK friendship is essential for global progress.”
“Writing a new chapter in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Great Britain.” On an official visit to the UK, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in London. On X, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal stated that a meeting with His Majesty King Charles III @RoyalFamily and bilateral discussions with PM @Keir_Starmer were on the horizon.
At the invitation of his British colleague Keir Starmer, the prime minister will make his fourth visit to the UK, which is set for July 23–24.
“We’re heading to the UK, where our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has accelerated significantly in recent years. As he left for the UK, PM Modi posted on X, “I am looking forward to my meeting with His Majesty King Charles III and my discussions with PM Keir Starmer.”
“During the visit, the two sides will also review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with a specific focus on trade and economy, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate, health, education and people-to-people ties,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press announcement.
Additionally, topics of mutual relevance at the regional and global levels will be discussed.
Both presidents hope to evaluate progress and map out new areas of collaboration, such as the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), during the visit, which is anticipated to provide the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) additional impetus.
During his visit, PM Modi is also expected to pay a visit to King Charles III.
The free trade agreement, which is being negotiated for three years, is anticipated to lower tariffs on 90% of British goods and remove them on 99% of Indian exports to the UK.
By 2030, bilateral commerce is expected to quadruple from the present $60 billion and increase British exports to India, including vehicles and whisky.
Concerns regarding Khalistani extremists in the UK are probably going to be brought up by PM Modi.
Vikram Misri, the foreign secretary, stated, “The issue of the presence of Khalistani extremists, bodies close to these people, is something that we have brought to the attention of our partners in the UK.”
The visit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, builds on the two nations’ regular high-level engagement. In addition to having numerous phone conversations, PM Modi and his UK colleague Starmer have already met twice, once at the G20 Summit in Brazil and again at the G7 in June 2025.
