Monday marks the start of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the first since India’s precise airstrikes on Pakistani terror sites during Operation Sindoor.

Prior to the session’s formal start, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to speak.

This Monsoon Session will take place from July 21 to August 21 and consist of 21 sittings over 32 days. It is the first since Operation Sindoor, which saw India’s precise airstrikes on terror facilities in Pakistan after the horrific Pahalgam terror attack.

In order to accommodate Independence Day celebrations, both Houses of Parliament will be adjourned from August 12 to August 17. They will meet again on August 18.

The opposition calls for accountability and answers on a number of fronts. Operation Sindoor, in the wake of the April 22 terror incident that killed 26 people, predominantly tourists, is the main topic of discussion.

The opposition demands a response to US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating peace between India and Pakistan, as well as a declaration from Prime Minister Modi on the subject.

The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls is another controversial topic that is anticipated to take center stage.

The timing and transparency of the initiative have drawn criticism from opposition parties, who claim the administration is trying to sway the next state elections.

In the meantime, the government plans to present a number of important laws throughout the session. These include taxation laws, sports governance, public trust regulation, ports and minerals, proposed legislation on GST reforms, and the preservation of geo-heritage locations.

The Lok Sabha will also hear a report from a parliamentary panel on the new Income Tax Bill, 2025.

To add to the serious agenda, Parliament is also anticipated to discuss a proposal to remove a judge.

We are eager to talk about significant topics like Operation Sindoor. These are very important national concerns. The government is open to conversations within the bounds of laws and customs and will never back down. Following Sunday’s all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters.

He emphasized the need of norms and conventions for the government.
