The National Natural Farming Mission (NNFM) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) site in Pusa, New Delhi.
By encouraging eco-friendly and sustainable farming methods, lowering farmer input costs, and improving soil health, the much awaited project seeks to transform Indian agriculture.
After a high-level video conference with state agriculture ministers, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan acknowledged the launch at a news event on Thursday. “On August 23, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the National Natural Farming Mission at ICAR in Pusa (Delhi),” he said, highlighting the Center’s dedication to ecologically conscious agricultural growth.
The introduction is a component of a larger national plan to establish India as a leader in sustainable agriculture worldwide.
For the launch, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has been working closely with state governments to make numerous preparations. In addition to expanding natural agricultural methods across the country, the objective is to significantly support international initiatives to save the environment and fight climate change.
On November 25, 2024, the Union Cabinet authorized the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF). The Centrally Sponsored Scheme is being conducted as a stand-alone program until the conclusion of the 15th Finance Commission cycle (2025–26). The mission focuses on natural farming methods supported by science that increase soil fertility, lessen reliance on chemical inputs, and increase agriculture’s overall climate resilience.
Additionally, the government will conduct the “Developed Agriculture Sankalp Abhiyan” during the forthcoming Rabi season from October 3 to October 18 as part of the larger agricultural development initiative. With a “Vijay Parv” theme, the campaign will seek to further spread the mission’s message and unite farmers, researchers, and policymakers in a concerted national endeavor.
The NNFM is an important and revolutionary step toward a more resilient, healthy, and greener future for Indian agriculture in light of growing concerns about climate change, environmental degradation, and the health effects of pesticide use.
