Following devastating monsoon-triggered floods and landslides that have devastated northern India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to flood-affected areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday to assess the ongoing disaster response and rehabilitation operations.
According to official sources, PM Modi is anticipated to land in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, at approximately 1:30 p.m., and if the weather permits, he will fly over the worst-hit districts.
Senior representatives from the state administration, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other rescue and relief organizations, including local Aapda Mitra volunteers, will update him during a high-level review meeting he will later chair in Dharamshala. In order to comprehend their worries, he would also speak with disaster victims directly.
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Gurdaspur, Punjab, by approximately 4:15 p.m., following his engagements in Himachal, after flying over areas of the state affected by flooding.
In addition to meeting with top administrative and disaster management officials, PM Modi will visit with locals of Gurdaspur who have been impacted by the disastrous floods.
According to the BJP, the Prime Minister‘s visit is intended to “ensure all necessary central support” and “closely monitor relief and rehabilitation efforts” for the flood-affected residents of both states.
Aman Arora, the state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and cabinet minister for Punjab, made a strong statement prior to PM Modi’s arrival, calling on the prime minister to send a relief package worth at least Rs 20,000 crore and denouncing what he called “mere flood tourism.” Additionally, he called for the prompt distribution of Rs 60,000 crore in outstanding funds, which included Rs 8,000 crore in Rural and Market Development Funds and Rs 50,000 crore in GST compensation.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has already written to the Center several times, Arora emphasized, requesting immediate financial assistance to address the situation and restore infrastructure damaged by the floods.
