Third Test: Despite Jadeja’s heroic comeback, England defeats India by an incredible 22 runs

Following nearly five days of intensely captivating and captivating Test cricket, England recovered and withstood a valiant comeback from a tenacious Ravindra Jadeja to defeat India by an incredible 22 runs at the Lord’s on Monday, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series.

India was eight down at lunchtime, and England’s quick bowlers were spot on as they resumed at 58/4. Jadeja, however, defied expectations by striking a tough and outstanding 61 not out off 181 balls. Even though he and the lower order gave it their best, India was bowled out for 170 in 74.5 overs, coming very close to recording a stunning victory.

Brydon Carse claimed two scalps for England, while captain Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer both claimed three wickets from bowling 24 and 16 overs, respectively. On the day they won the ODI World Cup at the Lord’s precisely six years ago, England managed to win an amazing Test match through sheer perseverance and patience, even though Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir, who bowled with a left finger injury, each took one wicket. After the first innings, both sides were tied at 387, however in the second innings, England was all out for 192.

The last session began with Jadeja and Siraj scurrying for singles while India defended resolutely to go closer to win, amid tension among all the people in the arena.

However, Bashir slid back onto the stumps to remove the leg-stump bail after spinning back one that struck Siraj’s bat on the fifth ball of the 75th over, causing anguish in the Indian camp and joyous scenes for England.
