In an effort to strengthen strategic alliances and regional collaboration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-nation tour of the UK and the Maldives on Wednesday.
At the invitation of his British colleague Keir Starmer, PM Modi will make his fourth trip to the UK, which is set for July 23–24.
According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, “the two sides will also review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during the visit, with a specific focus on trade and economy, technology and innovation, defense and security, climate, health, education, and people-to-people ties.”
Additionally, topics of mutual relevance at the regional and global levels will be discussed.
Both presidents hope to evaluate progress and map out new areas of collaboration, such as the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), during the visit, which is anticipated to provide the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) additional impetus.
During his visit, PM Modi is also expected to pay a visit to King Charles III.
Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has invited PM Modi to make a state visit to the Maldives from July 25–26 as part of the second leg of the tour. This is the first time a head of state or government has visited the island nation during President Muizzu’s leadership, and PM Modi’s third visit overall.
According to MEA, the two leaders will also assess how well the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a “Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership,” which was adopted during the Maldivian president’s state visit to India in October 2024, is being implemented.
Importantly, on July 26, PM Modi will be the honored guest at the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations.
His visit demonstrates India’s dedication to deepening its relationship with its maritime neighbors in line with Vision MAHASAGAR and the “Neighbourhood First” policy.
It is anticipated that the leaders would evaluate advancements in important domains like as economic integration, defense cooperation, and infrastructure.
Reaffirming India’s strategic objectives in the Indian Ocean area and beyond, the high-profile diplomatic meetings are intended to strengthen India’s worldwide outreach.
