New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar condemned the mob killing of a young Hindu man in Bangladesh and issued a warning about what she called a concerning history of violence and persecution against the nation’s religious minorities.

Rajkumar stated in a statement that she was “deeply disturbed by the ongoing violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority,” pointing to the most recent and heinous instance being the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.

According to Rajkumar, “the horrific mob killing of Dipu Chandra Das underscores a troubling pattern of violence against Hindus and religious minorities in Bangladesh.” “From Queens to the rest of the world, we must unite for religious freedom, justice, and human rights.”

At the time of his death, Das, a Hindu from Bangladesh, was only 25. According to Rajkumar, he was attacked, beaten, set on fire, and his body was dumped on a highway by a mob. Twelve people have reportedly been detained by the authorities in relation to the murder.

The statement read, “I am deeply disturbed by the ongoing violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, exemplified most recently by the brutal lynching of Hindu Bangladeshi Dipu Chandra Das, who was just 25 years old.”

The assemblywoman claimed that the murder was a part of a larger pattern of targeted violence and religious persecution against minorities in Bangladesh rather than an isolated event.

According to Rajkumar, “this incident is part of a troubling pattern of religious persecution and targeted violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.”

She cited data from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, which she said documented thousands of occurrences throughout the previous 12 months.

According to the statement, “between August 2024 and July 2025, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council recorded 2,442 incidents of violence against minorities and over 150 temples vandalized.”

According to Rajkumar, these numbers demonstrated the anxiety and instability that minority groups in Bangladesh, especially Hindus, face. The effects of such brutality, she continued, go well beyond the boundaries of the nation.

“We all share in the fear, suffering, and uncertainty faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, from Queens to countries across the globe,” she stated.

Rajkumar reaffirmed her support for defending religious freedom and human rights around the world and expressed solidarity with the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.

“We stand in solidarity with the Hindu community in Bangladesh and for human rights and religious freedom worldwide,” she declared.

Rajkumar represents a Queens, New York district that is home to a sizable and varied immigrant community, including Bangladeshi and South Asian diaspora people. She has given numerous speeches on matters pertaining to minority community protection, religious freedom, and civil rights.

Human rights activists and expatriate organizations are becoming increasingly concerned about reports of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh, especially in the wake of social instability and political upheaval.
