Days after Charlie Kirk’s murder, Trump labels “Antifa” a “major terrorist organization”

Days after his close aide and right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk was killed, US President Donald Trump formally classified Antifa as a “major terrorist organization” on Thursday (Indian time).

“I am happy to notify our many American patriots that Antifa, a sick, dangerous, radical left disaster, has been designated as a significant terrorist organization. In keeping with the greatest legal standards and practices, I will also strongly advise that those who are funding Antifa be properly examined. I appreciate you taking the time to consider this. Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, his social media account.

Trump didn’t go into detail about the criteria his government would apply when making the classification or the steps he would take to specifically target a left-leaning movement. It appears that Antifa lacks a clear leadership structure and a centralized organization.

The US president blamed the left for the murder of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk and other incidents of political violence in the nation last week.

“I’m about to tell you something that will get me into trouble, but I don’t give a damn. Because they don’t want to see crime, the right-wing radicals are frequently radical. In a Fox News interview, he stated, “The problem is the radicals on the left, and they’re terrible, hateful, and politically astute.

Prosecutors in Utah said Tuesday they will pursue the death sentence against Tyler Robinson, the primary suspect in Kirk’s murder, charging him with aggravated murder along with six other crimes.

“Over the last year or so, Robinson had become more political and had started to lean more to the left — becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented,” Robinson’s mother told detectives, according to the prosecution.

The mother said that Robinson had started dating his roommate, a biological male who was undergoing a gender transition, according to the paperwork.

On September 10, Kirk, then 31 years old, was shot in the neck while making remarks at a Utah Valley University campus event. Shortly after being taken to the hospital, he passed away from his wounds.

Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the most well-known conservative student organization in the nation, was founded by Kirk.

At the age of 18, he founded the Arizona-based organization in 2012, and it has since grown to become a political force with more than 800 branches across US institutions.

Particularly in the 2024 election, when it was crucial in supporting Trump’s reelection campaign, TPUSA emerged as a major force in mobilizing young conservative voters.
