The importance of the India-US relationship was highlighted during a meeting between Vinay Kwatra, the Indian ambassador to the US, and John Moolenaar (R-MI), the chairman of the House Select Committee on China.
The Select Committee said in a statement Thursday that they discussed trade, manufacturing, regional security, and initiatives to “shift critical manufacturing from China to India.”
India is a “essential partner for global security,” according to Moeelenar, who has personally witnessed the “aggression” of the Chinese Communist party.
India is the biggest democracy in the world and a vital ally for maintaining international peace. It is a significant US security partner with an increasingly intimate defense-industry connection that helps defend the American people, and it has firsthand experience with CCP aggressiveness,” he continued.
New Delhi is a global leader in “countering malign CCP-directed technology and social media companies,” according to Moolenaar.
“It [India] understands that if it permits the CCP to control and manipulate information for its citizens, it cannot be a free and secure country.” The strategic cooperation between the US and India was reinforced during today’s discussion with Ambassador Kwatra, and Moolenaar expressed optimism that the two nations would continue to forge an even closer bond based on shared ideals.
Following skirmishes between Indian and Chinese military in the Galwan Valley in 2020, the Committee statement emphasized India’s decision to prohibit TikTok and other Chinese apps.
They also talked about the “security partnership of Quad” and initiatives to “counter the Chinese Communist Party’s expansionist ambitions,” the readout said.
Vinay Kwatra spoke with Elbridge Colby, the US Undersecretary of War for Policy, at the Pentagon a few days prior.
“A fruitful discussion with the outstanding Elbridge Colby. reviewed the current agenda and outlined a workable plan for a number of upcoming defense cooperation projects between the US and India. We appreciate his extensive experience, insightful viewpoint, and steadfast support of our strategic alliance,” Kwatra wrote on X on Thursday.
Additionally, Colby shared a post about the encounter, describing it as a “valuable discussion.”
He tweeted on X, “We at the Department of War look forward to continuing to elevate our critical defense cooperation with India. I was very pleased to host @AmbVMKwatra at the Pentagon earlier this week for a valuable discussion.”
