In an effort to deepen the diplomatic relationship and expand the strategic collaboration between the two countries, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will meet with his counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow on Thursday.
A broad range of bilateral, regional, and international topics are anticipated to be discussed during the negotiations, with a particular focus on multipolar cooperation and economic resilience.
On August 19, Jaishankar began a three-day visit to Russia with the goal of strengthening ties between the two countries. The India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) held its 26th session in Moscow on Wednesday, with him serving as co-chair.
He also spoke at the India-Russia Business Forum, where he and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov will discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment relations.
“Happy to join First DPM Denis Manturov and attend the India-Russia Business Forum,” the EAM wrote on X after this. Respect the opinions and findings of different sectoral leaders about the stronger potential of our economic connections.
“Reiterated that a robust and sustainable economic component is essential to a long-lasting strategic alliance. In light of this, he urged our companies to engage in greater trade, consider more joint ventures and investments, and explore new avenues for economic collaboration,” he continued.
To protect economic sovereignty and increase the use of national currencies in bilateral trade, a significant emphasis will be placed on creating financial, logistical, and transportation infrastructures that function independently of nations enforcing sanctions.
The meeting takes place as both countries look to expand their political dialogue through bilateral and multilateral forums, such as the G20 (Group of Twenty), SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), and the UN (United Nations).
Both sides’ officials have emphasized that the foundation of Indo-Russian relations continues to be mutual trust and respect.
Strengthening interdepartmental cooperation in fields like energy, finance, defense production, science, and culture will be among the main topics of discussion.
Along with reviewing the status of agricultural, scientific-technical, and infrastructural partnership, the ministers are also scheduled to lay out the agenda for future high-level meetings.
Globally, Jaishankar and Lavrov will discuss important issues such as the changing Asia-Pacific security landscape, the war in Ukraine, the state of affairs in Afghanistan, and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Moscow and New Delhi both still support a multipolar world order because they believe it is essential to preserving stability and balance on a worldwide scale. Russia has reaffirmed its dedication to creating an inclusive global order founded on respectful communication and cooperation.
The gathering is viewed as a move toward strengthening collaboration in a geopolitical environment that is changing quickly and as a confirmation of the strategic depth of Indo-Russian ties.
