Ahmedabad has been suggested to host the 24th Commonwealth Games in 2030, which would be a historic moment for Indian sports. The news, which was announced during Commonwealth Sport’s Executive Board meeting, is historic because the Games will take place at the same time as the Commonwealth Sport Movement’s centennial celebration.

The proposal, which will be presented to the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in November 2025, is a reflection of India’s rising prominence in international athletics. The Commonwealth Games Association of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Government of India jointly filed the bid.

The action is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s persistent attempts to encourage a sports culture in India, especially through programs like Khelo India. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also been instrumental in developing India’s sports talents and facilities.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the country and credited Prime Minister Modi’s inspiring leadership for the accomplishment. “India has earned this honor by developing athletes who can compete at the global level and building world-class sports infrastructure,” he said.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel hailed the Prime Minister’s leadership in obtaining the endorsement, calling it “a truly proud moment for Gujarat and India.”

“The Centenary Commonwealth Games in Amdavad will be Games for the Future: built on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation,” said P.T. Usha, president of the Commonwealth Games Association of India.

“The 2030 Commonwealth Games in Amdavad will be a moment of pride for every Indian,” said Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Sports, Government of India. It demonstrates India’s rising prominence in sports and our conviction that sports have the power to inspire a generation, foster inclusivity, and bring people together.

“Holding the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Amdavad is not just about staging a global sporting event — it is about showcasing the new India: confident, capable, inclusive, and forward-looking,” said Gujarat’s Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi, echoing the idea.

The “Games Reset” ideals of Commonwealth Sport, which include affordability, inclusion, sustainability, and legacy, were praised for being reflected in the Games Proposal. India’s goal to become a major international athletic destination is anticipated to be strengthened by the 2030 Games, which are predicted to spark urban revitalization, youth involvement, and international cooperation.
