As Union Home Minister Amit Shah was introducing three important measures on Wednesday, opposition MPs, including Trinamool Congress members, tore and threw copies of the bills in his direction, causing a huge commotion in the Lok Sabha. Calling the incident a “shameful act that would bring disgrace to any civilized society,” the BJP has severely condemned it.
Kangana Ranaut, a former actor and BJP MP, claimed that the opposition’s actions had gone beyond all bounds of parliamentary decorum.
“What we saw in Parliament today is something that any civilized society would be ashamed of.” Leaders of the opposition attempted to take away our Home Minister Amit Shah’s microphone as he was putting out a bill. Even worse, they ripped the bill and hurled it in his face. Some even brought stones, which they threw. However, our group was patient,” she continued.
Aparajita Sarangi, a BJP MP, called the actions “very regrettable.”
After making a scene from their seats, opposition members went beyond all acceptable bounds. The Home Minister was attacked by a number of TMC members and female MPs. They ripped copies of the bill and threw them at him. “This was an attack, not dissent,” she stated.
The scenes were also referred to as “nothing less than the murder of democracy” by BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.
Members of the Trinamool Congress attempted to grab the microphone, ripped pages, and hurled them into the House, especially one of their female MPs. Voters, the general public, and democracy itself have all been shamed by this act. Such behavior is severely condemned by the BJP,” she told IANS.
Annpurna Devi, a BJP leader, condemned the event as well.
The whole nation is observing. Members of the Trinamool Congress in particular behaved in a very unacceptable manner today. When the Home Minister was introducing the Bill, even senior and well-respected MPs acted in this disruptive way. It is untrue for the opposition to say that members of the ruling party also attacked them. We weren’t attacking; we were just standing. “Every parliamentary decorum rule was broken by what they did,” she claimed.
As Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtyth Amendment) Bill, 2025, and revisions to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, mayhem broke out. According to the first measure, Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Union Ministers who are accused of corruption or major crimes will be automatically removed after 30 days in office.
Opposition MPs yelled slogans and tore copies of the laws in protest over the action. Amit Shah suggested that the legislation be sent to a Joint Committee of Parliament for additional review amid the chaos.
