In addition to calling the GST tax rate cuts and reforms a “truly transformative decision,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership for fulfilling his promises to the nation’s citizens, adding that the changes will “ensure ease of living but also give a big boost to ease of doing business, especially for small traders and entrepreneurs.”

Union Home Minister Shah posted on his official X account: “PM @narendramodi Ji stands for what he vows to. The poor and middle class will greatly benefit from this historic move to lower the GST rate and modernize the procedure, which will also help MSMEs, farmers, women, and young people. In addition to ensuring ease of living, these reforms will significantly improve the ease of doing business, particularly for small merchants and entrepreneurs, by streamlining the system and lessening the load on regular individuals. An really revolutionary choice for Bharat!#NextGenGST.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also praised Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Modi for unveiling the GST revisions on Wednesday, calling it a “bold decision.”

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted on X: “The Next-Gen GST changes will benefit all sectors of the Indian government, led by Prime Minister @narendramodi. This reform, which lowers tax rates on numerous key commodities, will improve living standards, make doing business easier, empower small enterprises, and increase India’s independence under Aatmanirbhar Bharat. I appreciate PM Modi and FM Nirmala Sitharaman’s audacious choice.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar praised the rollout of the Union government’s comprehensive next-generation GST reforms, which will provide relief across a wide range of sectors, including farming, education, automobiles, appliances, healthcare, and daily necessities. He also stated that the rollout will have a significant impact on the Center’s efforts to improve the country’s ease of living and business opportunities.

“In response to PM@narendramodi’s Independence Day announcement, the @GST_Council’s decision to adopt the #NextGenGST today will have a huge impact on the transformation story underway in India and the Government’s effort to improve ease of living & doing business,” EAM Jaishankar wrote on social media platform X early Thursday morning. Congratulations on this historic accomplishment, PM and FM@nsitharaman.

In a post on X, BJP President J.P. Nadda stated: “The Union Government has announced the Next-Gen GST changes to encourage continuous growth and development under the visionary leadership of PM @narendramodi ji. Lower tax rates on a number of necessities will improve living standards, assist families in budgeting, and benefit many industries. Simultaneously, this reform will empower small businesses nationwide and make conducting business easier. My sincere appreciation to Finance Minister @nsitharaman ji and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for this progressive move that will help our people, particularly middle-class families.#NextGenGST.

“PM @NarendraModiji’s historic Diwali gift for everyone!” wrote Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in a tweet on X. Best wishes to PM Modi ji and FM @NSitharamanji on the implementation of the #NextGenGST reforms, which were duly endorsed by the @GST_Council and aligned with the Union Government’s GST rate reduction and reform plans. The goal of these extensive GST rate rationalization and procedural reforms is to improve citizens’ quality of life, assist MSMEs, farmers, the middle class, women, and young people, and promote economic growth in all important areas. The GST changes would advance India’s path towards sustainable and inclusive growth, benefit consumers, improve ease of doing business, and open up new opportunities for small business owners, companies, and industry.

In an X tweet, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote: “#Rise of New India with NextGenGST! Today, the Prime Minister @narendramodiji’s decision to implement Next-Generation GST Reforms from the Red Fort’s ramparts has come to fruition. Passed unanimously by the @GST_Council, this landmark decision represents a commitment to simplify, streamline, and empower the lives of 1.44 billion Indians. This gift, which will bring prosperity to every home, was given to the people by Prime Minister ji prior to Diwali. This decision will provide the development of ‘Developed India’ additional impetus and make life much easier for the average person, farmers, young people, and small traders. I sincerely commend the esteemed Prime Minister ji for making this public-interest decision.

“Under the leadership of PM@narendramodi ji and FM@nsitharaman ji, the #NextGenGST reforms approved by the GST Council are truly commendable,” wrote Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a post on X. People’s lives will be made easier, business will be easier, and local manufacturing and entrepreneurship will be accelerated by these revolutionary initiatives. Sincere appreciation to the Honorable PM and the Honorable FM for these welfare-focused choices that would strengthen and broaden India’s economy.”

In an X post, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated: “This new generation GST will make everyone happy, from farmers to businesses, from households to enterprises.” The Central Government is committed to enacting a new GST reform system in the nation under the capable direction of Prime Minister @narendramodiji. The GST structure has been significantly simplified, with only two slabs of 5% and 18% currently applicable. In addition to directly helping regular people, this landmark ruling will provide small businesses and entrepreneurs newfound strength.

A number of industries, including electronics, cars, health, education, and agriculture, will benefit from this decision. This reform would be especially helpful in Uttarakhand, a state that depends heavily on tourism, as lower taxes will encourage investment and create new job opportunities for young people. Sincere gratitude is extended to the Prime Minister and Union Finance Minister @nsitharamanji on behalf of the entire state’s citizens for this momentous decision.

“Assam extends heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister @narendramodiJi for ushering in one of the most consequential reforms in India’s GST structure, and to the GST Council for ensuring these changes see the light of day,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on his official X account. The new government that was decided upon today will be a huge boost to the Indian economy, giving small and medium-sized enterprises more flexibility, increasing employment, boosting consumption, and—above all—putting more money in the hands of our citizens.

I consider this to be a turning point in the development of GST, having studied it closely over the past eight years, especially while I served as Assam’s Finance Minister. A brilliant example of the Modi Government’s hard yet adaptable approach to governance is India’s capacity to successfully implement the GST while also adapting and reforming when necessary.

The GST Council, led by Union Finance Minister Sitharaman, agreed comprehensive rate rationalization measures on Wednesday, reducing the current four-rate GST structure to just two slabs: 5% and 18%. This is a significant step in overhauling India’s indirect tax system.

In order to ease the burden on consumers and stimulate the economy, the Council eliminated the 12 and 28 percent tax slabs and replaced them with a more straightforward two-rate structure. Starting with updated tax rates on essential products and services, the amendments will take effect on September 22.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the decision shortly after it was made on the social media site X, writing: “I had mentioned in my Independence Day Speech that we intended to implement Next-Generation reforms in the GST. In order to improve the standard of life for the average person and boost the economy, the Union Government had created a comprehensive plan for widespread GST rate rationalization and procedure improvements.

I’m happy to report that the Union Government’s suggestions for GST rate cuts and reforms, which will help the average person, farmers, MSMEs, middle-class people, women, and young people, have been unanimously accepted by the @GST_Council, which is made up of the Union and the States. Our inhabitants’ quality of life will be enhanced by the extensive reforms, which will also make it easier for everyone to do business, particularly small firms and dealers.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated on Wednesday that the GST Council’s decision was made with unanimous support from all ministries and that the reforms would not only rationalize rates but also structurally.

At a press briefing following the conclusion of the 56th Meeting of the GST Council, she stated that, in the majority of situations, GST rates have decreased significantly, and rates have been lowered for farmers and agricultural and health-related products.

“PM (Narendra) Modi wanted to make the GST cuts available to citizens as soon as possible. These reforms are structural in nature in addition to rationalizing rates. The inverted duty structure has been fixed, according to FM Sitharaman.

The Finance Minister stated that the change, which will lower tax rates on dozens of commodities, will increase India’s self-reliance under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, empower small companies, and make living more cheap.

According to FM Sitharaman, “there is a complete reduction in common man and middle class items.”

The retail sale price (RSP) of pan masala, gutkha, cigarettes, unmanufactured tobacco, and chewing tobacco, such as Zarda, will be subject to GST rather than the transaction value.

Beginning on September 22, all goods—aside from pan masala, gutkha, cigarettes, chewing tobacco items including zarda, unmanufactured tobacco, and bidi—will have their GST rates adjusted.

To promote trade, the GST Council has made a number of decisions and suggested a number of actions.

Experts refer to the GST overhaul as a “next-generation” reform, and PM Modi has emphasized three main elements.
