Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), one of the country’s top automakers, has completed 25 years of exports from India, cementing its position as the largest exporter in this market.
Since beginning exports in 1999, the company has transported over 3.7 million (37 lakh) vehicles around the world, according to a statement.
The company’s export data demonstrated the success of India’s goal for self-sufficient and globally competitive vehicle manufacturing.
Hyundai’s global footprint has grown over the years, with cars exported to more than 150 countries.
Currently, the company distributes vehicles to over 60 countries, with Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru emerging as its main markets by 2024.
Hyundai claimed it would export 1,58,686 automobiles in 2024. Among the best-selling export models, the i10 family has sold over 1.5 million units internationally, while the popular VERNA series has sold over 500,000.
The automaker has also reached a significant milestone by shipping more than one million vehicles to Africa.
“Hyundai Motor India Limited proudly stands as the largest exporter of passenger vehicles from India on a cumulative basis,” according to Unsoo Kim, Managing Director-HMIL.
He noted that this demonstrates the growing faith in Indian engineering and the appeal of Indian craftsmanship around the world.
“Aligned to our global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ our resolve to serve global customers with a wide range of smart mobility solutions will continue to grow stronger as we commit ourselves to Make in India, Made for the World,” Kim tweeted.
Policies such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) plan for the automobile industry and the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme have boosted vehicle production and exports.
Meanwhile, the vehicle maker posted a net profit of Rs 1,161 crore in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025 (FY25).
This represented a 19% decrease over the similar value of Rs 1,425 crore for the same quarter of FY 2023-24.
The revenue from operations fell 1.3% in the third quarter to Rs 16,648 crore, compared to Rs 16,875 crore in the same quarter last year.
