On Sunday night at DY Patil Stadium, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on their decisive World Cup victory. The Women in Blue defeated South Africa to capture their first ICC title.
India, headed by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated Laura Wolvaardt’s team by 52 runs in their third 50-over World Cup final to win the trophy and become the world champions for the first time in Indian sports history.
“1983 inspired an entire generation to dream big and chase those dreams,” Tendulkar wrote on X, giving the squad extra credit. Our women’s cricket team accomplished something genuinely remarkable today. Numerous young girls nationwide have been motivated by them to pick up a bat and ball, walk the field, and have faith that they, too, will one day win that trophy. In the history of Indian women’s cricket, this is a pivotal point. Bravo, Team India. The entire country is proud of you.
Speaking about the game, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma’s best hits helped India score 298 runs. Both players performed equally well with the ball; the former took two vital wickets during India’s defense, dismissing Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus, while the later concluded with an outstanding five-wicket haul.
Shafali was selected Player of the Match, but Deepti, who finished as the World Cup’s best wicket-taker after hitting more than 200 runs and taking 20 wickets, won Player of the Tournament. As South Africa was dismissed for 246 runs, the spin-bowling all-rounder delivered the last blow.
The Indian women’s cricket team’s ICC trophy drought came to an end with that.
