India would keep voicing its worries over the existence of Khalistani extremists in the United Kingdom

India announced on Tuesday that it will keep up diplomatic efforts to extradite fugitive criminals and express its concerns to the UK government regarding the existence of Khalistani extremists in the country.

“Once more, we have drawn the attention of our allies in the UK to the problem of Khalistani extremists and bodies near these individuals. We’ll keep doing that. During a special media briefing held in advance of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK starting Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated, “This is a matter of concern not only to us but should be a matter of concern to our partners as well because this impacts social cohesion and social order in these other countries as well.”

Khalistani thugs caused a scene outside London’s Chatham House earlier this year while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was there for an event. As the EAM was leaving the location, a protester was seen racing towards his car in an event video that went popular on social media, drawing attention to the security lapse.

It wasn’t the first time extremist, anti-Indian groups had planned protests, attacks, and arson in London.

Following a commotion at the Indian High Commission in London caused by Khalistan militants, New Delhi issued a strong protest with the UK government in March 2023. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had asked the British government to explain why the Khalistani thugs were able to enter the High Commission’s grounds because there was no British security present at all.

India has continued to “make the case” for the extradition of fugitive offenders, and it continues to follow up very closely with the partners in London, Foreign Secretary Misri added during Tuesday’s media briefing on PM Modi’s two-nation tour.

“In the UK, there have been some inquiries concerning fugitives in relation to Indian law and Indian justice. Both parties have discussed these issues, and we have persisted in arguing that these fugitives should be turned over to India. Such demands and issues are subject to a legal process in the other nation, and we are still actively monitoring these matters with our partners in the UK,” he stated.

Prime Minister Modi is coming to the UK for the fourth time.

Prime Minister Modi will have extensive talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the visit on all aspects of India-UK bilateral relations, including exchanging opinions on matters of regional and international significance. King Charles III will also receive a visit from Prime Minister Modi. The two parties will also assess the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’s (CSP) development during the PM’s visit to London, with particular attention to trade and economics, technology and innovation, defense and security, climate, health, education, and people-to-people relations.
