BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Sunday alleged that the decision of the Congress government in Telangana to install meters on agricultural motors was taken with the sole intent of abolishing the free electricity scheme for farmers.
He also claimed that the government is trying to completely hand over the power sector to private entities under the guise of prepaid meters.
Addressing a meeting at Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office, he said that Congress is conspiring to completely eliminate free electricity for farmers by installing meters on their agricultural motors. He asserted that the Congress government is planning to replace every household’s current meters with prepaid ones.
According to reports, the State Cabinet made a decision on Saturday, he stated. Prepaid meters would also be implemented for all agricultural connections, he claimed.
Before meters are installed on agricultural motors and before prepaid meters are introduced in every home, KTR asked citizens to remove Congress from office. He called on the populace to rebel against the Congress party’s “power conspiracies” in the electricity industry.
He recalled that BRS had informed the public prior to the Assembly elections that if the Congress party won, the free electricity program would be discontinued.
KTR reminded everyone that under the pretense of installing prepaid meters, KCR had explicitly warned that meters would be installed at motor pumps and that the electrical sector would be turned over to private entities.
The BRS leader pointed out that KCR had previously refused to install these prepaid meters despite strong pressure from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do so, even going so far as to withhold a loan of Rs 30,000 crore to the state government.
KTR did note, nevertheless, that the Congress administration decided yesterday (Saturday) to put these meters everywhere within the next three months. He said that prepaid electricity meters, similar to prepaid cell phone connections, would take the place of the current meters within this three-month period.
According to KTR, the Congress party is just implementing these prepaid meters in order to end the free electricity program. He claimed that the Cabinet made this decision with the sole intention of ending free electricity and ultimately transferring control of the state’s power utilities to large corporations.
The populace is furious with the Congress party, the BRS leader said. He went on to say that as soon as the people had the chance, they would give the Congress party a fitting lesson.
According to KTR, the public is prepared to give the Congress party, which has been making careless promises while engaged in chaos and corruption at every turn, a proper lesson. He claimed that despite the fact that half of the five-year mandate granted by the people has passed, the Congress party has given up and failed to make any significant progress for the state or the general public.
