In a rematch of the 2023 final in Match 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Tuesday, Chennai Super Kings recorded a stunning 63-run triumph. Deepak Chahar delivered two early blows, including the early wicket of Gujarat Titans’ skipper Shubman Gill.

With a brilliant display from start to finish, CSK defeated Gujarat Titans by 63 runs, bowling them out for 143/8 in 20 overs to win at home for the second time in a row. Using the circumstances well on a surface with slightly more grass than normal, the Chennai pacers captured six of the eight wickets to fall.

Following their top order’s outstanding batting performance, which helped them reach 206/6, Chahar trapped Shubman in the third over to deliver the final, lethal blow. The ball pitched on a fair length stayed a little low and hit the Gujarat captain on the pad, giving Gill an outfield position. Gill reviews it but could not have it reversed since DRS goes with the umpire’s call.

The 2022 Indian Premier League champions lost their opening wicket and the top batsman for eight runs. Gujarat, who lost their opening wicket for 28, was unable to muster any resistance as the pressure on the scoreboard increased. The Chennai Super Kings had set a lofty goal of 207, supported by innings of 51 from Shivam Dube, 46 from Rachin Ravindra at 20 balls, and 46 from Ruturaj Gaikwad off 35 balls.

Wriddhiman Saha, Gujarat’s other opener, was also dismissed by Chahar (2-28 off 4 overs) for 21 off 17, forcing him to fling a catch to Tushar Deshpande as Gujarat collapsed to 34/2 in the fifth over. Saha got off to a good start, hitting four boundaries, but CSK kept up their strong batting tempo, therefore Saha was unable to score a huge one.

Gujarat was unable to bounce back from those losses and kept losing wickets often as the Chennai spinners performed a fantastic job of fielding and catching to keep the Gujarat Titans under strain. Thousands of CSK supporters filled the stadium as Ajinkya Rahane awed them with a spectacular diving catch, while Rachin Ravindra made three well-timed catches.

While David Miller smashed a 16-ball 21 and Sai Sudharsan top-scored for the Gujarat Titans with 37 off 31 balls and three boundaries, both players fell short in their attempts to increase the scoring pace. In the end, Gujarat Titans scored 143/8 in 20 overs.

With two wickets in two matches for CSK, Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets and Chahar claimed two wickets, but Tushar Deshpande was CSK’s top bowler of the day with two wickets.

Gujarat Titans (43/2) lost too many wickets in the Power-play and were completely outplayed as their bowlers were thrashed. Chennai’s bowlers were excellent with the short ball, they changed up the speed, and they denied the Gujarat Titans hitters many opportunities, thus they were tenacious in their quest.
