In the Indian Premier League’s encounter 30 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad upset host Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 25 runs, posting the highest aggregate total for a T20 encounter with a total of 549 runs. Veteran batter Dinesh Karthik scored 83 runs off 35 deliveries, but it was all in vain.

At the beginning of RCB’s pursuit of the IPL’s greatest total, Hyderabad substituted Mayank Markande for Travis Head. Spinner Abhishek Sharma was given the opening over by SRH, much like by RCB. Virat Kohli, who had fiercely shot the ball back to the bowler, was dropped by Abhishek Sharma on the fifth ball of the over, with the score at one.

In the second over after Bhuvneshwar Kumar entered the field, Kohli lofted the ball just past the lunging short-third fielder, hit a boundary and then smacked the final ball for a maximum.

After the Power Play, SRH was 76 without a loss; however, RCB improved that with 79/0, largely because of their openers. Kohli finished the Power-play with a boundary, lofting Pat Cummins over his head. He scored six fours and two sixes while on 42 off 19 balls. Du Plessis too accelerated quickly, going from 17 to 37 with five fours and two sixes. When SRH deployed their Impact Substitute, he immediately produced results. Mayank Markande threw the googly high and watched it drift in, dipping on a length on off stump. The turn and slow pace of the ball defeated Kohli when he attempted the slog sweep. After 6.2 overs, RCB was 80 for 1, with Kohli having gone for 42 off 20 deliveries.

Jaydev Unadkat bowled the fifth ball of the eighth over, which was when the captain of the RCB achieved his fifty in twenty-three balls. He was able to sever it over a short third with an extended reach out from his body. He drove the next ball down the ground, only to have it flick the bails at the non-striker’s end and tickle Unadkat’s hands. After Will Jacks left the crease, the Royals dropped their second wicket.

Rajat Patidar entered the field and hammered his second ball over Markande’s head for a huge six. He heaved past the line after two balls that were legal, but the fielder was at long-on. RCB had nine overs and were 111 for 3.

The captain Cummins struck twice again, getting Saurav Chauhan for a duck and du Plessis for 62. After losing the final four wickets in just 13 valid deliveries, RCB was in disarray.

Following the departure of RCB’s numbers 3, 4, and 5 for 7, 9, and 0, respectively, Dinesh Karthik entertained the audience. Along with Mahipal Lomror, he scored an additional 59 runs, of which the latter scored just 19. Karthik continued to hammer boundaries from the other end as Lomror hit two sixes. When Cummins returned to bowl the fifteenth over, Lomror was hacking away. Five overs remained, and the RCB were 187/6. After that, Karthik teamed up with Anuj Rawat, who only contributed eight deliveries, but together they added 63 in just 28 deliveries.

In his final over of bowling, T. Natarajan claimed the valuable wicket of Karthik, who was dismissed with just 35 deliveries and 83 runs scored. Hyderabad defeated Bengaluru by 25 runs, with a total of 549 runs, setting a record for the highest aggregate for a Twenty20 match. Rawat struck 18 runs when RCB needed 44 runs in the final over.
