Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Union Railways, Electronics, and IT, announced on Tuesday that Apple’s most recent iPhone 16, which is being built in India, will be released worldwide.

On September 20, the new iPhones marked as “Made in India” would be on sale in the nation and be exported to other countries.

Minister Vaishnaw stated, “Apple’s most recent iPhone 16 is being produced and launched globally from Indian factories.”

“The world is witnessing the production of iconic products thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative,” the minister wrote on the social networking platform X.

The government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) program allows iPhone exports to reach a monthly total of approximately $1 billion. The government claims that over 2 lakh individuals have found work in Apple’s ecosystem alone, and growth has been moderate.

From $6.27 billion in 2022–2023 to $12.1 billion in 2023–2024, iPhone shipments from India increased significantly. In total, the company’s operations in India were valued at $23.5 billion during the most recent fiscal year (FY24).

Over 10,000 workers will be directly hired by iPhone factories in the nation during the busiest festival season. With the goal of relocating some of its production from China, Apple plans to produce around 50 million iPhones in India annually.

Along with Foxconn and Pegatron, Tata Electronics, which manages two plants for Apple, is the primary employer in the Apple ecosystem.

With political stability and pro-business regulations, major giants like Apple are continuing to move their iPhone manufacture to India. In the most recent fiscal year, India gained about half of the market share that China and Vietnam had lost.

From $11 billion in FY23 to about $16 billion in FY24, the nation exported mobile phones. In the following five years, it is anticipated that the nation’s total electronic manufacturing output will approach $250 billion.
