China and India are pleased with the calm and harmony along their borders

India and China reviewed the situation in border regions on Wednesday and expressed pleasure with the overall calm and serenity in the area, which has led to a gradual normalization of bilateral relations. Through existing channels, the two countries committed to continuing frequent consultations and exchanges on matters pertaining to boundary relations at the diplomatic and military levels.

The 34th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC), which took place in New Delhi on Wednesday, reviewed the current state of affairs. Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Chinese delegation at the meeting, while Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), led the Indian delegation.

“The two parties discussed the state of affairs along the China-India border. Bilateral relations have gradually normalized as a result of their expressions of pleasure with the overall calm and quiet in the border regions. Following the meeting, the MEA said, “They agreed to maintain regular exchanges and contacts on issues related to the boundary affairs at the diplomatic and military levels through established mechanisms.”

In order to promote efficient border management and maintain peace and tranquility, the two parties discussed a number of initiatives that were discussed at the 33rd WMCC meeting and the previous (23rd) round of SR Talks. Additionally, the two parties got ready for the upcoming session of the Special Representatives’ Talks on the India-China Boundary Question, which is scheduled to take place in India later this year,” the statement continued.

A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised India’s decision to resume issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals on Wednesday, calling it a “positive move.” The official said that in order to further ease travel between the two countries, China is willing to continue consulting and communicating with India.

“We observe that India has resumed issuing Chinese nationals tourist visas. This is a wise decision. Facilitating cross-border travel has many advantages. To further ease travel between the two nations, China will continue to consult and communicate with India,” the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on X.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier this month in Beijing, where they talked about the future of bilateral ties between China and India. During the meeting, he gave the Chinese president the warmest greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. The meeting was part of a call to the Chinese President by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Jaishankar’s first trip to China after the bloody clash in the Galwan Valley in May 2020 was this one.
