Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the UK on Wednesday evening for a historic two-day visit that revolves around the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the renewal of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Indian community in London greeted him with a lavish greeting.
As Prime Minister Modi arrived at his hotel in London, members of the Indian diaspora danced in traditional attire and carried a number of posters welcoming him with chants of “Modi, Modi,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and “Vande Mataram.”
“I was moved by the Indian community’s cordial reception in the UK. It is very encouraging to see their love and enthusiasm for India’s advancement,” PM Modi posted on social media site X.
Prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in London, musicians in traditional attire performed dhol.
“We are so proud, and I am still in tears,” an Indian diasporan told IANS, expressing delight and enthusiasm over seeing PM Modi. As you can see, the excitement and happiness that PM Modi imparted when shaking our hands are still visible in my eyes.
“I felt really happy meeting PM Modi for the first time, and my entire day felt worthwhile,” another Indian diaspora member told IANS. the steps PM Modi has taken for India, including the recent success of Operation Sindoor and digitization. PM Modi and his Cabinet are solely responsible for these efforts. People go out of their way to meet PM Modi because of the excitement he exudes. Every time I go back home, I feel so proud.
A member of the Indian community told IANS: “It was just an incredible vibe that I saw. I thought PM Modi looked like a saint, but I never imagined he would have such a strong presence. People really like PM Modi because of this.
“It felt really great, just like every time PM Modi comes, he always does something good here,” another Indian diasporan told IANS. He adds positivity and fortifies the ties between India and the UK. I’m really hoping that PM Modi would accomplish something significant for India this time around as well.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an incredible person, and I am so happy that I got to meet him today,” stated another member of the Indian diaspora. PM Modi is such an inspiration to me.
At the invitation of his British colleague Keir Starmer, the prime minister will make his fourth visit to the UK, which is set for July 23–24.
“We’re heading to the UK, where our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has accelerated significantly in recent years. As he left for the UK, PM Modi posted on X, “I am looking forward to my meeting with His Majesty King Charles III and my discussions with PM Keir Starmer.”
“During the visit, the two sides will also review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with a specific focus on trade and economy, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate, health, education and people-to-people ties,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press announcement.
Additionally, topics of mutual relevance at the regional and global levels will be discussed.
Both presidents hope to evaluate progress and map out new areas of collaboration, such as the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), during the visit, which is anticipated to provide the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) additional impetus.
During his visit, PM Modi is also expected to pay a visit to King Charles III.
The visit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, builds on the two nations’ regular high-level engagement. In addition to having numerous phone conversations, PM Modi and his UK colleague Starmer have already met twice, once at the G20 Summit in Brazil and again at the G7 in June 2025.
