The second-highest constitutional office in the nation will be formally assumed by newly elected Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Friday at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office at 10:30 a.m.

Senior leaders from both parties will attend the swearing-in ceremony. Prominent members of the ruling NDA and leaders of the opposition in both houses of parliament have also received invitations. Jagdeep Dhankhar, the former vice president, is also anticipated to be present at the event.

On Thursday, Radhakrishnan formally resigned from his position as Maharashtra Governor in order to take on his new role.

According to an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu appointed Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat to assume extra responsibility as the Governor of Maharashtra after he resigned.

Sources claim that Vice President Radhakrishnan has called a meeting with the Rajya Sabha floor leaders for 12:30 p.m., shortly after taking the oath. Late Thursday night, the meeting was announced.

The opposition candidate and former Supreme Court justice B. Sudershan Reddy received 300 votes, while NDA nominee Radhakrishnan received 452 votes to become India’s 15th vice president on Tuesday. After Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned, a vice presidential election was held.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated CP Radhakrishnan after the results were announced and said he was confident the newly elected vice president will uphold India’s constitutional principles.

Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji deserves congratulations for winning the 2025 vice presidential election. Serving society and helping the underprivileged and disenfranchised has always been his life’s work. “I have no doubt that he will be an exceptional vice president who will uphold our constitutional principles and foster parliamentary debate,” PM Modi wrote on X.
